Getting started

Opening a drawing set

Create a project, then add your PDF. Multi-page sets stay intact — each sheet appears in the Pages list and keeps its own counts, measurements, and markup.

Setting the scale

Measurements need a scale before they mean anything. Calibrate against a known dimension on the sheet — a door width, a gridline spacing, or the printed scale bar. Set it once per sheet; every linear and area measurement on that sheet then reports in real-world units.

Counting items

Create an item type for each thing you are counting, give it a symbol and a color, then place it on the plan. The running count updates as you go. Use the filter box, the visibility toggles, and favorites to keep a busy sheet readable.

Exporting

Export produces a PDF with your markup and an automatically generated legend of item types and totals, ready to send to the office or attach to a bid.

Subscriptions

Free trial

Both the monthly ($9.99) and yearly ($99.99) plans include a 14-day free trial. Apple determines trial eligibility from your Apple Account — if you have already used a trial in this subscription group, a new one is not offered.

Managing or cancelling

Subscriptions are managed entirely through Apple. On the Mac: App Store › your name › Account Settings › Subscriptions. On iPad or iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access through the end of the paid period.

Restoring a purchase

If you subscribed already and a new device does not recognize it, make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account, then use Restore Purchases in the app.

Refunds

Apple handles all billing, so Apple handles all refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

iCloud sync

Turning on iCloud storage syncs your projects across your Mac and iPad through your own private iCloud container. If a project is not appearing on a second device, check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is enabled in System Settings, and that the first device has finished uploading — large drawing sets take a moment.

New installs default to local storage. You can switch to iCloud in the app's settings.

Common questions

Does mTally work offline?

Yes. Everything except iCloud sync works with no network connection.

Can I use my own symbols?

Yes. Item types carry their own symbol shape, color, and label, and stamps are reusable across projects.

Where does my data go?

Onto your device, and into your own iCloud account if you enable it. Nowhere else — see the Privacy Policy.

My measurements look wrong.

Almost always a scale problem. Re-calibrate against a known dimension on that specific sheet — sheets in the same set are often plotted at different scales.
